Senior year is here! But before you turn your tassel and head out into the world with that diploma, it's time to prep for your senior photo session. These are SEVEN tips I've compiled based off of questions I get from clients just like you.

1. Find Out Your High School's Requirements for Yearbook Photos
High schools will share information with you regarding yearbook photo submission. I will need to know some things like:
- Do they require a casual pose, a formal pose, or both?
- What is the dress code for yearbook photos?
- What size/orientation does it need to be in?
- What's the deadline for me to send in your photo?
2. Chose a Location That Fits Your Style
Pinterest and Google are full of ideas for senior photos. From rustic to city chic, look for some inspiration online and share a few images you love with your photographer. Do you want sun-drenched fields or industrial brick? I can recommend places based off of your taste but I'm also open to trying new locations.
Try not to stress too much about finding the perfect location. Photographers are crafty! We can get amazing senior portraits just about ANYWHERE.

3. Plan Your Outfits
Plan on bringing 2 to 4 outfits depending on the package you selected. Don't forget to plan an outfit for the yearbook. Make sure that one follows the dress code!

If you need ideas for outfits, Pinterest is awesome. Another great way to pick the perfect ensemble- just imagine what you'll wear the first week of school.
To help you out a little more, here are some do's and don'ts when it comes to choosing the outfits:
- do pick something you feel great in! If you feel comfortable during our session, you'll love the final product even more.
- If you can avoid it, don't wear strapless or thin spaghetti strap tops. Close up photos could end up looking a little bare.
- do choose bras and underwear that work with your outfit. Make sure bold colors or patterns aren't showing through.
- do bring accessories. A cool hat, nice shoes, or some fun jewelry can complete the look.
- don't forget your feet will be in some of the photos. Socks and shoes will be visible.
- do remember to iron or steam your clothes. Use a lint roller to remove pet hair.

4. Prep Your Glasses
If you wear glasses every day, you'll probably want your senior photos taken with them on. However, if you wear transitional lenses, it's important to have the lenses removed or swapped to a clear, glare resistant lens before your session.
5. Gather Props
If you have any hobbies and want to showcase them during your session, decide on what your going to bring with you. Some ideas include books, athletic equipment, instruments, or your camera!
6. A Beauty Regimen EVERYONE Can Follow
A few things that are difficult to edit in Photoshop are chapped lips, skin that's badly sunburned, and dirty or chipped nails. The solution? Leading up to your session do these three things:

- Drink Lots of Water and Use Chap Stick. This will help keep lips smooth.
- Use a lotion with SPF or wear clothing that protects against the sun's harmful rays. Another option: relax in the shade!
- Clean your nails, file, and fix any old polish.
7. Makeup On The Day Of Your Session
I am always blown away by the make up skills seniors have when I photograph them! Wear your makeup however you like! BUT please avoid glitter. When glitter reflects light into the camera, it can look like white dots. Also, don't worry too much about blemishes. We all have them! I make sure to edit out those pesky pimples after our session.
