One of the most stressful parts of senior portraits is planning the right outfits. With Amelia Margaret Photography's Premium Senior Package there is no limit on how many outfits you can bring; however, three or four wardrobe changes is your best bet. More than four can start to take up too much time.

Here's a simple guide to help you make decisions for your senior session:

1. Bring a variety of colors.

As a lover of all black clothing, this one is personally hard for me. It's important to make sure to bring a few different colors of clothing. This adds greater variety to your photos. You'll be happy you mixed it up!

2. Solids and prints are the best way to go.

Avoid words on your clothes. Messages on shirts aren't going to be 100% visible in every photo. The cut-off phrase might read weird in your photos.

3. Wear accessories (but not an old hair tie on your wrist).

A watch or necklace can really add to the overall look of an outfit. Remember to take off worn out wrist bands or hair ties.

4. Bring a casual look, a formal look, and an in-between look.

Your casual senior photo look might be something that really showcases your personality. For the in-between outfit, think "first week of school" looks. Don't forget shoes for each wardrobe change!

5. Go ahead and treat yourself!

Worn out fabric or pilling is something I regret seeing in photos of myself. Crisp new clothing makes a senior photo seem all the more luxurious. I promise, bringing one or two new outfits will be much better than bringing loads of overly-loved ones. Remember, these outfits can double as back-to-school clothes!

6. Layers are a nice way to quickly change up a look.

A jacket or sweater is the perfect way to quickly change the feel of an outfit.

7. Wear the proper undergarments for your outfit.

I know seeing a bra strap doesn't seem to matter too much in the moment, but it makes an outfit nicer when everything is concealed. I've had several seniors say they didn't care about straps showing but later wanted them photo shopped out. Not every strap can be edited out of an image later. Some poses make it difficult. Plan underwear and bras for each outfit.

8. You might be changing in a car.

Depending on the location you choose for your senior pictures, you might be changing in your vehicle. Restrooms aren't always available. A camisole or tank top might help you to be a little more comfortable with this.

9. I'll bring a lint brush, but ironing is something we can't do on location.

Whatever outfits you choose will be great. I'm seriously impressed by seniors these days. But to help your outfit live up to its full potential in photos, iron or steam out wrinkles before hand.

10. Finally, know what the dress code is for your school's yearbook.

I've had clients have to come back and redo their yearbook photo because it didn't follow school appropriate guidelines. I will be bringing a pop-up backdrop with me for a head shot so plan for that yearbook pose!
